Inspired by Color, Connected by Community @ Archway Gallery

Since becoming a member of Archway Gallery in 2024, I’ve stepped into a space that reflects more than just a place to show art—it’s a living, breathing creative collective with deep roots in Houston’s art scene. As one of the newest members, I’m honored to be part of this long-standing gallery, known for its commitment to artistic integrity, collaboration, and community engagement.

Archway Gallery is the longest-running artist-owned and operated gallery in Texas, with nearly five decades of history behind it. What continues to set it apart is not just its longevity, but the cultural richness of its members. The diversity within this group—artists from various ethnic backgrounds, creative disciplines, and life experiences—creates fertile ground for innovation, dialogue, and transformation.

As an African American artist, I hold space for both individuality and representation. My voice is rooted in a tradition of healing, resilience, and expressive storytelling. Through my work, I bring forward themes of color, texture, personal history, and well-being—inviting viewers to connect with something deeper than what’s seen on the surface.

On Saturday April 5th, I’m proud to be featured in New Visions, New Voices, a group exhibition spotlighting five of Archway’s newest members. This exhibit will feature works by Artists Rhonda Radford Adams, Michael Angell, Gozde Kaya Hepisler, Kay Sarver, and Eric Stiles. This exhibition offers a fresh perspective on what it means to create in today’s world—honoring the past while embracing new ideas and possibilities. For me, it’s also a celebration of presence and purpose: of being part of a collective that values not only what I create but the context and culture from which it’s born.

Cultural diversity at Archway Gallery isn’t just a statement—it’s a strength. It allows for bold experimentation, fresh narratives, and unexpected collaborations. It pushes us to see through new lenses and builds a gallery experience that resonates with a wide range of communities across Houston and beyond.

Being part of Archway has expanded my creative practice, given me new opportunities to grow as an artist, and opened the door to meaningful connections. I look forward to what’s ahead—and I invite you to experience this journey with me.
