Book Launch & Give Kids a Smile Event for National Children's Dental Health Month!

Join our team of smile makers as we launch the first in a new series of art health books called the Hot SPIT Chronicles. Author and dental hygienist, Rhonda Radford Adams,  will be on hand for a story reading presentation, with fun activities and GKASD oral health kits to help teach participants about good oral health and overall wellness!

Everyone Deserves A Healthy SMiLE!

Parents everywhere face these same challenges when asking their kids to brush at bedtime. This story series targets youth ages 4 thru 10; grades Pre-K thru 4th. However, we realize the entire family, from all ages will have fun learning from these adventurous health stories together!
Noticing that children’s dental health was getting lost in the scramble to combat COVID-19, access to preventive dental services and school oral health programs have been delayed. With an ounce of creativity and a pound of compassion, this expressive arts health literacy project will help children and their families learn the importance of maintaining healthy smiles together, even though a pandemic.

WHY IT MATTERS?

INSPIRED BY FACTS!

Does everyone have a dental home?

Dental disease is the most common chronic illness for children in the U.S. 49 million US residents are living in areas designated as Dental Health Shortage Areas.

Are public health dental services re-opened?

Compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic, preventive dental services have been limited in the interest of public health safety and school oral health programs have also been suspended because of government closures. Due to concerns, many remain hesitant to schedule any care including routine and or preventative check ups.

Skipping a dental check up can't be too bad?

This combination of factors means that children in low-income families are at higher risk of tooth decay, gum disease and ultimately a lifetime of systemic illnesses like heart disease, diabetes, arthritis and even dementia to name a few.
